FAQ with Drew

Good questions

We sat down with Drew to answer the questions he hears most in 20 years of DJing around Wilmington. Have one that isn't here? Ask us.

Booking & contract

Do you provide a written contract?

Yes. Every client gets a contract once they decide to book with Acclaim DJ. You'll have 10 days to sign it online and email it back with a $200 deposit.

How much do you charge?

Our prices are very competitive, and our packages are designed to fit a range of budgets. Your price depends on the time, date, location and size of your event, and the services you'd like. Ask us for a quote.

Are planning, setup and travel included?

Yes. We don't charge extra for setup, and travel is included within an hour of Wilmington.

Will we get to meet our DJ?

Absolutely. We suggest two meetings: one to get to know your DJ and go through the online music and wedding planners, and a final one to confirm every detail and answer any questions. You can also call or email as often as you like in between.

Do you offer lighting and special effects? Does it cost extra?

Yes, and no. Our lighting system is included in your package at no extra charge.

How many hours of entertainment do we get?

It depends on the package you choose. We'll work out the right amount of time with you based on your plans.

Can you play longer if we need to?

Yes, no problem. Just let us know before the event ends that you'd like us to keep going. There's an added fee based on the extra time.

Do we need to provide any equipment?

No. For indoor events we bring everything. Our equipment runs separately from the venue's, so all we need is a power outlet.

For outdoor events, please provide a tent. Weather can change quickly and our equipment runs on electricity. For ceremonies without power nearby, we can run on battery power.

On the day

What time do you arrive?

We're known for being on time. We aim to arrive 1–2 hours early so we can set up and have music playing when your first guests arrive.

Do we need to give you a meal?

No. A meal is a kind courtesy, never an obligation.

Should we tip our DJ?

Tipping isn't required, but it's always appreciated. If your DJ kept the night on schedule and played great music, 15–20% of the fee is a typical tip.

Do you have a backup plan?

Yes. We bring a backup plan to every event. Problems are very rare, but we're 100% prepared if one happens.

Do you take breaks?

No. We know what a break can do to the energy of your event, so we play non-stop for the whole booked time. The only exception is if heat, weather or the venue makes it unsafe for our DJs.

Do you take requests?

Definitely, and we encourage them. You can send your own picks before the event, and your guests can make requests on the night.

Can I bring my own music?

We probably already have your favorite songs, but you're welcome to bring music on a flash drive. We don't accept CDs.

How do you interact with guests?

That's up to you. We can be as interactive or as laid-back as you like. Our DJs have worked with every kind of crowd, age group and music taste. Just tell us the style you want.

Music & planning

Will you help us plan the music and announcements?

Of course. Our online wedding planner helps you choose your songs and set up announcements for every formal moment, and we'll go over it with you by phone or in person.

During your consultation we'll talk through introductions, cake cutting, announcements and anything else you'd like us to handle. We work closely with your other vendors, and we check in about a week before your event to catch any last-minute changes.

What kind of music will you play?

We'll talk through your taste in detail before the event. You choose your special songs and requests in advance, and you decide whether we take requests from guests.

How loud will the music be?

During dinner and cocktail hour, loud enough to enjoy but not so loud it gets in the way of conversation. After dinner we turn it up for dancing, while keeping an eye on the volume so the rest of your guests stay comfortable. Volume is the most common complaint about DJs, so we watch it closely.

What will you wear?

We wear formal attire to all official events. If you'd like us to wear something else, just let us know.
